Tiivistelmä
The thesis work explores the conceptualization of a utility-trailer, that aims to address ergonomic and stylistic shortcomings with current utility-trailer offerings. The purpose is to explore how such a trailer may look and function. Emphasis is placed on design language, functionality, use of space and aerodynamics.

The process began with background research into the basic functionality, construction and use of utility-trailers, as well as the different kinds of trailers available to consumers. After gathering background information, utility trailers were observed in person, and structured interviews were conducted to gain insight into who uses trailers, why they use them, and how. This research provided a basis for user profiles, which help define the features and uses of the trailer concept.

Goals and ideas for features were then re-evaluated to align more with the collected information. To analyse the collected information and initial ideas, the SWOT-analysis method was used, where the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, of ideas and information can be assessed. This was followed by a value proposition canvas, where ideas for features and functions are evaluated to determine which of them offers the user the most value. Features and ideas were then decided upon, whereupon the design brief was made to support the design process.

During the design process, freehand sketching was utilized to brainstorm solutions and explore potential forms for the design language of the concept. Key sketches were then chosen and iterated upon. After the final design was found, the 3d-model was then made. Finally, after having completed the 3d-model, renderings and visualizations were made to highlight features, functions and design elements that define the concept.

Through the research, it becomes evident that current utility trailers lack features that enhance ease of use and safety. It also becomes clear that use of space and efficiency can be further improved. These conclusions form the basis for the trailer concept. The end result presents how a light trailer that addresses these shortcomings might look. The outcome of the design work meets some of the specified goals set for it.
