This study aims to explore the impact of digital payment on consumer behavior in Nepal. Following the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the study investigates the impact of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and security concerns on payment selection.
The study collected data utilizing a quantitative research strategy and surveyed urban and rural consumers. Findings indicate wide utilization of digital payment, with mobile wallets being the most popular. Key drivers to usage include convenience, ease, and security. However, low internet connectivity and fear of fraud remain issues in rural areas.
The results show huge differences in the rates of adoption of digital payments, with the most frequent users being youth, urban, and educated consumers. Most of them intended to use digital payments in the future, indicating growing familiarity despite existing challenges. The results are of specific importance to policymakers and financial institutions aiming to promote digital payments in Nepal’s emerging payment ecosystem.
