Tiivistelmä
The thesis topic projects the importance of nursing studies in Finland for future students through the nursing curriculum offered by Centria University of Applied Sciences (UAS). The thesis topic was authorized by Centria University of Applied Sciences (UAS). The purpose of the thesis was to develop a video and familiarize the new nursing students with the study environment at Centria University of Applied Sciences (UAS) Kokkola campus. The main objective of the thesis was to aim for the smooth integration of international nursing students into the higher education community.
The thesis is practice based, where a short video for learning purposes was developed. The video was approximately 5 minutes consisting of the nursing classrooms used for study purposes and simulation areas in Centria (UAS). The core value of the video is solely to promote the nursing studies, curriculum design, and study challenges that occur during their stay in Finland.
The theoretical framework consists of the different levels of nursing studies, such as nursing competencies. Competencies are required from nurses at the workplace; in addition, it is useful for foreign students to know at the application stage and for future students how to cope in the new country. Finnish culture and society, Finnish language challenges, and their importance in the workplace are also important subjects discussed in my thesis project. Moreover, classroom etiquette, concentration on studies, and students’ participation in performing the nursing activities were the main topics discussed or touched on at some point in my thesis writing.
