Tiivistelmä
This thesis explores the integration of Cisco Intersight, a cloud-based infrastructure management platform, with Nutanix hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) in the ICT Laboratory of Karelia University of Applied Sciences. As higher education increasingly depends on virtualized systems for teaching and research, the need for scalable, automated, and centrally managed infrastructure is growing.
The objective is to design, implement, and evaluate a unified infrastructure management solution that enhances operational efficiency, reduces administrative overhead, and improves support for academic services. The study is structured around a transition from a legacy “ManualOps” model to a modern “CloudOps” architecture. The existing infrastructure is documented and analyzed, followed by the deployment of Cisco Intersight and Nutanix to establish the future-state design. Implementation includes assessment, provisioning, configuration, and validation phases, supported by technical configurations and system metrics.
The results demonstrate that integration enables centralized control, policy-based automation, and intelligent monitoring. These enhancements lead to faster provisioning, higher service availability, and improved infrastructure reliability. The modernized environment also supports advanced educational use cases and fosters innovation in digital learning. Grounded in real-world implementation, this thesis contributes academic validation to vendor-driven narratives and offers a replicable model for higher education institutions aiming to modernize IT operations through intelligent cloud management.
