Tiivistelmä
In response to the growing disconnect between children and nature within urban living environments, this project proposes the design of an educational play set named Taimi, inspired by the natural landscapes of Finland and designed for children aged 0 to 5. The primary goal is to create an interactive space that enhances children's cognitive, sensory, and social development while fostering a lasting emotional connection with the natural environment.
The design is grounded in key child development theories, including those of Piaget, Vygotsky, and Bruner, alongside research on play-based learning, sustainability, and user-centered design.
Taimi includes components such as a camping tent, wooden lake, fire puzzle, microscopic insects, wooden mushrooms, and a textured play mat. Each element is made from safe, sustainable, and nature-inspired materials, aiming to spark curiosity, imagination, storytelling, and group cooperation.
Developed as an advanced conceptual design, the project features detailed sketches and digital 3D modeling. Although no physical prototype was built, every stage of the design process was carefully documented, including early research, material exploration, design analysis, and user experience reflection.
