Student Global Virtual Teams programs are becoming more popular every year which can lead to conflicts relating to many subjects, one being ICT. This study sought to answer the question: How did the choice of ICTs impact the experiences and activities of X-Culture participants in 2020?
This qualitative study was conducted in the form an open-ended survey that went to the undergraduate student participants from one Finnish university who took part in the 2020 X-Culture program. The objectives of the research were to determine how these students per-ceived the use of ICTs affecting the performance of their individual GVTs, whether there were any issues with ICTs were identified, and whether the participants learned anything new when using the ICTs.
Findings explain that ICTs had a positive impact on performance and that the respondents had a clearly favourite application to use, that being WhatsApp. All the respondents reporting using the application for the project communication. Another finding, that reinforced the research on Generation Z’s competence in digitalization, was that some respondents reported no difference in
experience of completing a regular group project as compared to the GVT project.
