Our society is aging rapidly and an increasing percentage of the older population of the world suffers from one form of chronic pain or another, this posits that care for these conditions as a priority for both current and future physiotherapists. This paper analyzes the literature to determine how physiotherapists can implement biopsychosocial methods in the care and management of elder patients with chronic pain. To answer this question, a systemized literature review was used to determine how effective the current model is in the care for older patients with chronic pain and evaluate the key methods that could improve the quality of care. The results indicate that the biopsychosocial model of chronic pain which centers the patient is both much more cost effective as well as having broader use cases.
