Tiivistelmä
This thesis was practice-based. The thesis aimed to create a general Finnish working life course, specifically for N Clean Oy’s new international employees. This course has been designed for employees who will have N Clean Oy as their first employer in Finland. The objective of this thesis was to provide a theoretical and practical knowledge about the Finnish workplace culture to newcomers at the case company. The information was focused on basic employment laws, workplace culture and skills, adaptation, and communication.
The project was carried out with the close cooperation of HR coordinator, Sanna Harynen, and the theoretical research and survey research were supported by the HR coordinator. The information about the company’s expectations and needs from this course was explained by the HR coordinator, which helped to improve the result. The survey provided the challenges faced by international employees, from which the main issues identified were comprehending employment laws, knowing the highly regarded values in Finnish culture, such as punctuality and equality and open communication with supervisors.
The outcome of this project was the final contents required to implement the final e-course, which consisted of five modules which were workplace culture and communication, special features of Finnish work culture, basic employment laws, workplace skills, and diversity and adaptation. The content was supported by micro-learning principles and was written in simple English to ensure accessibility.
The case company and its employees gained practical benefits through this course. For international employees, it gives them confidence and clarity about the information. And for the company, it helps to reduce misunderstandings and improve team inclusion and enhance diversity in the teams, which will help to gain innovative results and support long-term success. This project also delineates the value of combining theoretical knowledge with practical application to solve real-world problems.
