Acute alcohol intoxication management in emergency care among working aged people (18-65 years)

Abstract

Acute alcohol intoxication often results in conditions that required effective medical management. This study developed an acute management plan for alcohol intoxication to improve the care of patients, reduce complications, and evaluate the efficacy of various treatment methods. The study met clinical, public health, and societal needs, as alcohol was the most widely used psychoactive and addictive substance worldwide, and its abuse commonly caused harm or impaired clinical outcomes, efficient resource utilization, support for public health programs, and education/employee productivity. The thesis is a critical review that was based on an exhaustive literature search, using very specific and well-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Scientific papers obtained from renowned sources were reviewed, addressing the pharmacodynamics of intoxication, factors that altered the individual's response to the drug, complications of acute intoxication, and available management modalities.

The review further outline deficiencies in existing literature and suggested areas of further research for the development of better management strategies for acute alcohol intoxication supported by evidence.
