Tiivistelmä
This thesis is an assignment given by Peab Seicon Oy, a leading Finnish construction company. Peab Seicon Oy has interest to build and expand business relationships with the Chinese. Therefore, a need arises that the company management should be aware how to communicate properly with the Chinese by adapting to the cultural manners.
This thesis mainly focuses on forming a communication handbook based on cultural and intercultural communication theories, especially under the Chinese cultural atmosphere. Terms, such as, 'culture', 'cultural relativism', 'intercultural communication', are briefly explained in the contents, as well as some conceptions in Chinese moral values (Confucianism, Taoism, guan-xi and face), and cultural aspects in communication (timing, decision making and negotiating). Business etiquette is also included, together with cultural sensitivity and Chinese communication style, contributing to the core part of the thesis: writing a communication handbook. There is a short summary at the end of the thesis as the conclusion.
