Stricter rules för wastewater treatment have created a need för better solutions on wastewater treatment in areas outside the sewer network. Most households outside the sewer network do not have sufficient cleaning of their wastewater. The newer built households are the only ones that have satisfactory cleaning systems.
Every property owner has to make sure that the wastewater treatment system is working so that the cleaned wastewater does not cause harm to the environment.
The village of Öja is outside the sewer network and the wastewater treatment methods need to improved on the area. One possibility is to connect to the sewer network coming from Larsmo and the other is to improve the old systems so that they meet the requirements of the Government decree on treating domestic wastewater in areas outside the sewer networks.
To get an understanding of how the wastewater treatment should be improved the new Government decree on treating domestic wastewater in areas outside the sewer network is explained. The future situation of Karleby sewer network is also described.
A cost comparison between individual treatment systems and to join the Larsmo sewer network is made. To limit the thesis a small part of Långö was considered för the comparison, the most important was that the school was included in the comparison.
