Tiivistelmä
This thesis explores the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into project management. The study aims to examine how AI is currently applied in project environments, how it impacts the role and competencies of project managers, and the ethical and organizational factors influencing its adoption. A qualitative research approach was used to collect data. The data is collected through semi-structured interviews involving two professionals with project management experience. Thematic analysis was used to identify key patterns in the interview data and to compare them with insights from the existing literature.

The findings indicate that AI can provide considerable benefits in project planning, forecasting, decision-making, and communication by enhancing efficiency and supporting data-driven insights. At the same time, the study highlights major challenges, including concerns around transparency, bias, data quality, ethical use, and overreliance on AI-generated outputs. Participants highlighted the continued necessity of human oversight and the importance of project managers developing new competencies, particularly in AI literacy, critical thinking, and ethical awareness. Organizational readiness and leadership support were also identified as critical enablers of successful AI adoption.

These results are consistent with contemporary research, confirming that while AI can significantly impact project management, its adoption must be carried out responsibly. The thesis concludes by recommending initiatives to strengthen AI literacy, establish ethical governance frameworks, and enhance organizational preparedness. Future research could examine AI adoption across different industries, investigate long-term effects, and explore effective training models for project managers.
