This thesis will examine the operational effects of logistics and environmental effects on the international furniture retail logistics and its effect on Indoor Group Oy in terms of a case study. The study determines packaging flows, transport distances, and reverse-logistics operations using primary warehouse-level data, ISO circular-economy standards-based life-cycle assessment, and an ESG lens to identify areas that should be improved.
The results indicate that supplier practices and last-mile transport are the largest contributors of greenhouse-gas emissions, and over-packaging practices and mixed-pallet practices contribute significantly to waste and labor inefficiency. The scenario analysis shows that delivery consolidation and redesigned structured packaging have the most beneficial effect on reducing emissions and managing the time spent.
In a broader sense, the thesis suggests an ISO-conformable, practice-based model of integrating LCA and ESG into decision-making on retail-logistics. It further provides prioritized and actionable suggestions to enable Indoor Group Oy to become a more circular organization that would have been better prepared to operate in a controlled environment and be in a better position to improve operational performance.
