Homecare Nurses Experiences on Handover Reporting

Abstract

Handover reporting is used by nurses as an organized process to transfer essential patient information, including treatment details, medication modifications, and condition updates during shift changes. The purpose of this thesis was to describe nurses' experiences of handover reporting in home care.

This thesis used a descriptive literature review to analyze the experiences of nurses regarding handover reporting in homecare, and identify the obstacles they face during shift-to-shift handover. Thus, the thesis reviewed the original studies conducted on the experiences of nurses working in homecare facilities by searching for data, including and excluding studies, selecting and analyzing data. Inductive content analysis was used to perform the data analysis, which resulted in the grouping of data into themes.

The findings revealed that nurses working in homecare face various obstacles during handover reporting, including communication errors, high workload and time pressure, and poorly integrated electronic health record systems.
