Tiivistelmä
Heart failure is caused by several different diseases of the heart and circulatory system, such as coronary artery disease, hypertension, and valvular heart disease. Rarer causes of impairment are, for example, heart muscle diseases and arrhythmias.
The purpose of this functional thesis was to create a written version of a client-oriented self-care guide for heart failure patients and produce two guides in English and Farsi. The thesis task aimed to address the following questions: What is heart failure, and how does it affect daily life? How do cultural norms, including beliefs and lifestyle choices, influence the development of heart failure and the recovery process? Additionally, how can healthcare professionals assist patients in supporting their recovery?
Patients with heart failure require professional support to help them commit to their own care. Their engagement in self-care is crucial since lifestyle choices significantly impact the disease. Sharing information and discussing these topics can enhance their commitment. This thesis addresses various lifestyle factors, including medication management, leisure activities, alcohol consumption, smoking, exercise, and nutrition.
