Tiivistelmä
Today's business process optimization requires end-to-end visibility into the business processes. Often too much time has to be spent on troubleshooting and searching the root causes of problems, because the current solutions and methods do not provide enough meaningful information. For that reason real-time monitoring of business processes is needed at Infineon Technologies.

In order to gain more information about the benefits of such a monitoring solution, a Business Activity Monitoring prototype was set up. Therefore, the base components and the most important technologies were identified, and the business process framework of Infineon Technologies was studied. Two business processes "order management" and "pick-pack-ship" were selected for the prototype implementation as they provide transparency, easy integration, and enough optimization potential. The selected processes were described in details, including applications used to perform the automated operations in those processes.

The purpose of the software evaluation was to identify which of the software packages currently on the market best correspond to the company's requirements and suites for the prototype. A detailed evaluation was done for three solutions: BusinessEvents of TIBCO Software; Transaction Vision of Bristol Technology; and Activity Suite of Celequest.

BusinessEvents software was selected to be used for the Business Activity Monitoring prototype. In the prototype the selected processes were modeled, and the corresponding lnformation Technology systems were connected to the monitoring. The prototype provided important information conceming how to connect heterogeneous systems to provide real-time information and how to map the information by using the process modeling tools. The result also helped to recognize the most valuable systems and methods that are needed to proceed from the prototype into a productive Business Activity Monitoring that enables an instant end-to-end visibility into the business processes.
