The rapid development of emerging technologies and also the growing demand for secure and reliable data management solutions highlighted the importance of the Blockchain technology beyond cryptocurrencies. At the same time, Financial Management companies faced challenges related to weak data integrity, inaccuracies and inefficiencies in information systems. This created risks for decision-making, compliance and operational reliability.
The research study aimed to explore the potential of the Blockchain technology and develop a conceptual design as a solution to improve data quality in Financial Management information systems. The objectives were defined as increasing the understanding of the Blockchain technology from theoretical, societal and applied perspectives, and developing the conceptual design of a digital product.
The research study was conducted using the Design Science Research Methodology. The methodology followed a structured six-step process. Following a comprehensive literature review, an artifact of the Conceptual Design was developed. The artifact included a multi-step process for data processing, validation, correction, and transfer, supported by defined system interactions and user roles.
The results showed that the Blockchain technology could be effectively utilized to improve data integrity, transparency, and traceability in Financial Management information systems. The developed Conceptual Design presented mechanisms for validating and correcting data according to decentralized principles while maintaining controlled access and accountability. The evaluation showed that the artifact was consistent with the principles of Design Science Research. The evaluation also solved the identified problem by improving reliability and reducing the risks associated with incorrect data.
It was concluded that the Blockchain technology provides significant potential for the development of innovative digital products. The Blockchain technology improves data quality and operational efficiency in Financial Management information systems. However, challenges were identified in practical implementation, such as scalability, performance, and integration complexity. Further research was recommended to develop technical prototypes and to investigate the practical implementation and evaluation of the proposed conceptual design.
