Blunt abdominal trauma : clinical assessment and survival outcomes

Abstract

Blunt abdominal trauma is very common after an injury’s incident. The injuries are difficult due to their hidden manifestations and prolonged onset. Blunt abdominal trauma results in a high mortality and morbidity rate, which is due to many reasons within emergency care. The thesis work studied the assessment of blunt abdominal injury as well as factors contributing to mortality.

The thesis aims to provide an insightful overview of blunt abdominal injuries and to explore detailed approaches to assess it, with a focus on enhancing pre-hospital care. The purpose of this thesis is to improve the assessment strategies from the perspective of paramedics and nurses, particularly for haemorrhages in the abdominal region, caused by blunt force trauma, and consequently improve the survival rates and peaceful recovery for the patients.

The thesis is supported by a literature review and selected references from trustworthy, evidence-based resources. The study method is a qualitative, integrative literature review, and in the meantime, an inductive thematic content analysis is conducted on the data.
