Regulated GxP environments experience increasing pressure to improve project flexibility while continuing compliance, validation integrity, and formal governance. Traditional project manage-ment provides strong lifecycle control and traceability, but may limit adaptability. Agile methods support iterative development and responsiveness but may create challenges in validation-intensive environments that require formal qualification and documentation.
The objective was to develop a practical hybrid project management approach for validation-intensive projects in regulated GxP environments. The thesis focused on equipment, facility and cleanroom, process development, and computerized system projects. The aim was to combine iterative development with validation-driven governance and regulatory requirements.
The study was conducted as a research-based development project using qualitative document analysis, comparative analysis, and constructive model development. The analysis included the-matic coding, conflict analysis, benchmarking, and synthesis.
As a result, a qualification-focused hybrid lifecycle model and a Project Manager’s Handbook were developed. The model integrated iterative development with lifecycle governance, validation log-ic, risk-based scaling, and traceability requirements.
The results indicated that Agile principles and regulated governance were not inherently incom-patible. The main challenge was identified as integrating iterative development with validation-oriented lifecycle control. The developed approach demonstrated that iterative practices could be applied in regulated environments when supported by appropriate governance and validation structures.
