Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this thesis is to explore the expectations of teachers at Po Leung Kuk Mrs. Chan Nam Chong Memorial Primary School regarding an educational study trip to Finland. The research was commissioned by Sumino Oy, a Finland-based company specialising in educational tourism.

The theoretical framework of this thesis is built upon five key concepts: educational tourism, study trip, experiential learning, Finnish education, and primary education in Hong Kong. These concepts provide the academic foundation for understanding why teachers may seek alternative educational experiences abroad and what they expect from a Finland-based study trip.

The research follows a qualitative approach. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews conducted in Cantonese via video call with teachers at Po Leung Kuk Mrs. Chan Nam Chong Memorial Primary School. The interview data was analysed using thematic analysis following the six-phase framework established by Braun and Clarke (2006).

The findings address the three research questions of this thesis. Teachers’ expectations for the trip centre on broadening students’ worldview, experiencing Finland’s student-centred learning culture, and enabling direct exchange with Finnish schools. Their key educational goals include developing students’ self-directed learning capacity and ensuring curriculum alignment. The primary concerns relate to financial accessibility, student welfare and safety, and parental support. The results provide Sumino Oy with research-based insights to support the development of educational travel services for the school. The findings are not intended to be generalised beyond the context of Po Leung Kuk Mrs. Chan Nam Chong Memorial Primary School.
