Abstract

Most modern websites have complex design, appealing contents, include many features and services, and blend with any screens and browsers. Developing such websites requires deeper understanding of modern web elements and implementation of complex techniques. With the advancement of technology, methods and techniques of modern web development are advancing too. Hence, a web developer has to be competent enough to understand and use modern techniques and deploy all the required modern web elements in the websites.

The main objective of the thesis is to explore the major elements of modern web development and how they can be implemented resourcefully. The thesis also emphasizes the importance of opting for modern techniques for faster, better and robust web development.

In this thesis, few of the modern web development methods applied in designing three websites http://geosmartcity.dc.turkuamk.fi/, http://geosmartcity.dc.turkuamk.fi/leaflet/index.html and lavaplat.dc.turkuamk.fi/public are discussed in detail. The thesis also discusses a detailed research into various components and elements of modern websites with working codes where applicable.
