This study describes information specialists’ participation in a project where evidence-based practice was taught in the training and working life context of nurses. The role of the information specialists was considered important in the project because the expertise to search for scientific knowledge was thought to promote the evidence-based practice. In the project, the information specialists experienced varying interest in evidence-based information sources. According to their observations, the work culture in the health care field was based on the sharing of experience-based and tacit knowledge rather than using document-based and textual information. The study results revealed a need to develop information specialists’ readiness to meet the workplace information literacy needs and requirements.
