Abstract
Tretekno Ltd. is a new company focused on machine automation and piece handling. The company started its operations with old machinery from Perlos’s Ylöjärvi plant. The company has been working in Ylöjärvi since 2007.

Tretekno had a task to produce engraved acrylic panels for its customers. This lead to a need for a machine that is capable to make such panels. Building of the machine started in autumn 2009.

The purpose of this thesis is to design and build a working 2-axis CNC router, which uses laser in engraving panels. Used parts and solutions as well as new components were used in the building of this machine. In this thesis, laser technology and fabrication techniques, including applications are been familiarized.

Final result is a working CNC router that uses CO² laser with scanner optics. In the time of building this router, many possible points of development were discovered. In the future it is possible that the router will be modified to function even better.

At the end, the router is working as planned and it was adaptable to the planned task. This work helped to learn more of machine building and automation technology.
