As the market changes and the company expanding their market area Bang & Bonsomer Group Oy, a leading supplier of chemicals, needs to re-evaluate their distribution strategies and consider new alternatives for distribution.
This thesis is commissioned by Bang & Bonsomer Group Oy and the purpose has been to compare the costs for direct deliveries and deliveries through a hub by doing a total cost analysis. The idea for a total cost analysis is to see the supply chain as a whole and try to reduce the costs for the entire supply chain instead of just one activity in the chain. To do a total cost analysis you need to identify all the activities in the chain and their costs and find the connection between the activities to see how they affect each other. There are different views on what should be taken into account when doing a total cost analysis and the reason for this is that companies have different business structures. Therefore, I have studied two different models for total cost analysis and based on these models I have created my own model, which is tailored to the needs of the company and includes the costs that are relevant to the company. The costs taken into account in the analysis have been limited to the costs involved in moving the goods and information costs directly associated with moving a product. Based on the model, you can compare the total costs of the different distribution options and find that delivery via hub is much cheaper than direct deliveries.
The method for this thesis is quantitative research, which is mainly based on primary data, but also partly on secondary data. The material has been collected through discussions with individuals at the company and through offer requests to different companies.
