The occupational therapists at Vaasa Central hospital want to evaluate how the clients experience the client-centred practice they are striving for. The purpose of our study was to develop and to carry out a pilot study of a questionnaire that measured the clients’ views of the client-centred practice at the department of physiatrics and rehabilitation at Vaasa Central hospital. The method used was questionnaire development and pilot study. The questionnaire was developed through studying the Occupational Performance Process Model, OPPM, deciding on four themes and then researching current literature. A pilot study of the questionnaire was carried out and its usability researched through a separate appendix. Sixty-one respondents from the department of hand rehabilitation, the adult neurological department and from the department of technical aids took part in the pilot study. The response rate was 75 %. The results from the questionnaire were analyzed quantitatively and the results from the appendix qualitatively. The results show that the clients perceive the occupational therapists work to be client-centred when it comes to evaluation, planning, intervention and follow-up. They also show a few shortcomings concerning some specific areas and the follow-up. According to the results of the general questions the basic practical arrangements work without a problem. The results from the appendix show that the questionnaire scope was broad enough, easily understood and completed. Based on the results from the questionnaire and the appendix we can conclude that it is not suited for clients that cannot answer the questions themselves and clients who have only visited once. In the future the questionnaire will be used by the occupational therapists at the hospital and, based on the results, they can progress as occupational therapists and develop their workplace and their services.
