This project is about congregate housing and its importance in today´s society and for the elderly human being. A private Swedish speaking service house is used as an ex-ample in the capital of Finland when ethical discussions and questions are seen in the light of congregate housing. Three specific questions that this project will answer are: what are biggest challenges where a service house is concerned, what are the biggest assets with this kind of service and what are the challenges for service houses in the future. Semi structured interviews have been used as the chosen method and a qualita-tive data is best suited as the material in this project is guided by letters and not by numbers. Three informants are interviewed who belong to the staff of the service house in question, and they are the temporary manager, a nurse and a member of the board. The aim with this project is to make a systematic survey and discuss those eth-ical questions that are brought to light in the caring of elderly people at a service house. The intention is to systematically survey the conditions, challenges and the fu-ture from an ethical perspective. The result shows that all of the informants agreed and concluded that there are many assets with this kind of service. Service houses bring a healthy and a safe environment to the senior citizen. She is not alone, but is taken care of if such needs should arise and at the same time she can live her life as she pleases with her own piece of furniture around her. Ethical questions are discussions are analyzed. The biggest challenges where a service house is concerned both today and in the future are those of staff members and recourses. The possibility of having a well educated staff and a Swedish speaking one at that are the main concerns and mentioned challenges.
