The Art of Styling : en teoretisk och praktisk studie om modereportage ur en estetisk synvinkel

Abstract

Syftet med detta arbete är att få mera kunskap om hur man skapar estetiska modereportage. Arbetet görs för att utveckla respondentens kunskaper inom ämnet och för att kunna producera ett modereportage. Med arbetet vill respondenten påvisa sina kunskaper inom styling och göra ett eget modereportage inspirerat av forskningen. Arbetet skall fungera som inspiration åt yrkesmänniskor och ge dem förståelse för modereportage.

Resultatet som fåtts genom analys av modereportage, framställning av eget modereportage, jämförelse och med hjälp av utvärderare visar att känslan som förmedlas genom en modebild samt ifall den upplevs estetiskt tilltalande beror på flera olika komponenter. Komponenterna som respondenten tagit upp är posering, styling, färger, bildkomposition, bakgrund, ljus och ytor. Komponenterna som däremot oftast nämndes i både bildanalyserna, tolkningen och i utvärderingen var; posering, styling, färger, bakgrund och ytor. Dessa komponenter som oftast blivit nämnda kan tänkas vara de som främst svarar på syftet och forskningsfrågorna då man talar om en modebilds känsla och estetik. Poseringen kan man tolka som en komponent som alla har relativt liknande åsikter om; en posering med armarna om kroppen förmedlar sårbarhet och ett visst ansiktsuttryck, melankoli.Stylingen bidrar starkt till helhetsbilden och går hand i hand med personlig smak då man talar om kläder och stil. Färger har en universell tolkningsskala och bör tas i beaktande i kombination med olika ytor. Bakgrunden sätter modellen i en viss miljö, ett utrymme, och utgör grunden för hur den upplevs. Med en solig och somrig miljö kan man lätt väcka positiva känslor då sol och värme tilltalar flera. Genom att använda sig av neutrala färger och element i bilden kan man skapa något som tilltalar mängden men ifall man vill skapa något som väcker uppmärksamhet skall man tänka på detaljer och det oförväntade.

The purpose of this study is to get a deeper understanding on how aesthetical fashion editorials are produced. Through this study the respondent’s aim is to also gain more insight on the topic to be able to produce a fashion editorial herself. With this study the respondent wants to show her knowledge in the area of creating a fashion editorial inspired by the executed study.

The result that has been achieved by analysis of an editorial, the making of an editorial, comparison and the help from an evaluation made by people in the industry is the fact that the feeling an editorial gives us and if it is aesthetically appealing depends on many components. The components that are focused on in this study are styling, posing, colors, composition, background, light and surfaces. The components mentioned the most in the analysis of the editorials and the evaluation are posing, styling, colors, background and surfaces. These most often mentioned components can be thought of as the intermediate answer to the purpose of this study when speaking of the feeling and aesthetical appeal in an editorial. The posing again is something that most have a shared opinion on; when posing with arms holding oneself it gives a vulnerable impression and a certain facial expression can be thought of as melancholic. The styling in an editorial strongly contributes to the picture in a whole and goes hand in hand with personal taste. Colors have a universal way of being interpreted and should be considered when combining with certain surfaces. The background in a picture sets the scene, environment, for where the model is placed and forms the base of how the picture is experienced by the viewer. With a sunny summer scene positive feelings are easily awakened in many viewers since these are often experienced as positive. By using neutral colors and elements you can compose a picture that will appeal to a bigger crowd whereas if you want to create a picture that will catch the viewers’ attention you should carefully consider the details in it and add an element of surprise.
