Tiivistelmä
The construction industry is a complex area to deal with due to the nature of the industry itself. The related logistics management includes transportation, warehousing, inventory and packaging all of which are crucial factors in an efficient construction project planning.
This study was conducted on the logistics in a construction project with a special focus on equipment delivery on site. This study attempted to focus on the factors involved in construction logistics, give some approximate answers regarding transportation roles in logistics and help the case company, Watrec’s, equipment delivery and import from European countries to Vietnam.
The mixed methods approach of quantitative and qualitative research was applied in this research for obtaining the primary and secondary data. The first step of the study was a literature review consisting of the theoretical background on logistics in construction planning, the roles of transportation and import to Vietnam. Interviews and measurements were conducted in order to collect the primary data which was the second step of the research. This data was to let Watrec know the real figures related to the cost and time of shipping their equipment to the construction site.
The findings could help Watrec in planning the purchasing and delivery of equipment to the site based on the estimated equipment delivery cost and time from European areas to Vietnam. Those aspects related to cost and time in transporting equipment to construction destination were also the influencing factors for choosing suppliers for Watrec. Furthermore, this study is helpful for construction companies as a review on the logistics involved in the building projects.
