Toimeksianto opinnäytetyöhön tuli Turun ammattikorkeakoululta, jonka tarpeisiin oppimateriaali tehtiin.
The subject of the thesis is cannulation of peripheral venous vein and sampling from cannula. The purpose of the thesis was to produce material for teaching cannulation of venous and sampling for students of biomedical laboratory science. The assignment for the thesis came from Turku University of Applied Sciences. The thesis is part of Turku University of Applied Sciences project Development of working life relations and teaching methods in the Degree Programme in Biomedical Laboratory Science.
The thesis consists of two parts, a cannulation instruction and a report. The guide for the cannulation and sampling has been produced in PDF format and is presented in appendices of the thesis. The method of the guide is instructions with text and picture format. The guide can be used to orientate biomedical laboratory scientists with cannulation and sampling. The thesis report section discusses peripheral vein anatomy, cannula sampling, and related studies, drug therapy, tools, techniques and complications. The thesis also deals with the areas of the functional thesis, the process of preparing the manual and learning through the instructions.
The authors of the thesis were educated for cannulation by the Turku University of Applied Sciences. The authors of the thesis participated in a research project during which they gained practical experience of cannulation. The result of this thesis was a clear and informative guide to cannulation and cannulation sampling.
