Tiivistelmä
In this written part of the Bachelor’s thesis I present my work ‘Where the Trails and Trees Are’ concerning the themes of home, nostalgia and divinity and I explore these themes also through examples from Tarkovsky’s films and Eija-Liisa Ahtila’s video installation and link it to the context of contemporary art. I also discuss my working process as well as the narratives of the two-channel video projection in my video installation.
The data for this thesis is collected from various traditional sources, such as books, articles, Internet sources and from media sources such as podcasts, videos, films, games and media artwork. I have used sources which in both content and form are relevant to my own practice. For my research, I found Mieke Bal’s ‘Thinking in Film’ and Teemu Lehmusruusu’s ‘Pilvien ja fossiilien maa’ to be the most valuable literary resources. Both books inspired me to analyse, to research extensively, and to write about the subject matter of my artwork.
I display the documentation of my thesis artwork ‘Where the Trails and Trees Are’ and elaborate the process behind producing and installing it. My work is a part of the field of contemporary media art, especially in the context of the Anthropocene and emerging media. I also shortly present TAMK Virtual Gallery, a virtual reality contemporary art gallery I worked on.
