Aineistoa on mahdollista käyttää koko Suomen Syöpäyhdistyksen käyttöön. Khora. Spatiality in Art Therapy Context was a study on the relationships between art therapy spaces, a creative process and a flow state. The goal of the study was to find out the importance of flow state in e.g. art therapeutic cancer rehabilitation and outline the importance of art therapy space and spatiality in reaching the flow state in art therapy.
The study was commissioned by Cancer Society of Satakunta. The material used included experiences of two rehabilitative group art therapy groups and the phenomenological observations of the groups made by the author, who acted as a group art therapist. In addition, experiential knowledge was collected from other art psychotherapists, group art and art therapists about acting in different art therapy spaces and about flow states. The information was collected by questionnaires and /or interviews.
The good physical properties of art therapy spaces were drafted in the study and the entire spatiality model of art therapy was formed. Moreover, the concept khora was suggested to be taken to use in art therapy context to describe in a comprehensive manner a protective potential space for a creative process and art therapy work. Furthermore, the importance of flow state as a part of art therapeutic work was considered as well as assisting in reaching it by spatial means as a part of art therapy because of the confirmed wellbeing effects it brings along.
With the help of research results Cancer Society of Satakunta can develop their operations further to a service concept and utilize the generated information in the spatial planning of art therapy spaces. The material can be put into practice and used by the entire Cancer Society of Finland.
