Opinnäytetyön tietoperusta koostuu teoriaosuudesta, jonka perusteella on lähdetty toteuttamaan empiiristä osuutta. Teoreettinen viitekehys koostuu johdon laskentatoimen sekä kustannuslaskennan kirjallisuudesta. Teoriaosuudessa käydään läpi, mistä kustannukset muodostuvat, sekä perusmetodit kannattavuuslaskelmiin.
Empiirinen osuus koostuu toimeksiantajayrityksen tuotantoprosessin tutkimisesta ja tuotteiden kustannusten selvittämisestä. Näiden perusteella on kehitetty Excel-pohjaisia laskelmia, joilla voidaan mallintaa yrityksen tuotteen kannattavuutta eri myyntitapahtumissa. Laskelmia tehdessä on keskitytty niiden monipuolisuuteen korostaen muokattavuutta yrityksen vaihteleviin tilanteisiin ja tarpeisiin.
Johtopäätöksenä voidaan todeta osan tuotteista olevan liian kalliita, kun kyseessä on suuret tuotantomäärät. Alihinnoittelua taas tapahtuu hyvin pienillä tuotantomäärillä tuotetuissa tilauksissa. Opinnäytetyön tuloksena saadut kannattavuuslaskentataulukot tulevat olemaan hyödyksi yrityksen tuotteiden uudelleen hinnoittelussa. Kannattavuuslaskelmista saatujen taulukoiden avulla yritys pystyy jatkossa asettamaan kilpailukykyisemmät hinnat tuotteille. Monipuolisuutensa ansiosta on taulukoita mahdollista hyödyntää myös opinnäytetyön ulkopuolelle rajattujen tuotteiden osalta. Seurannassa havaittuja parannustarpeita sovelletaan yrityksen tämän hetkisiin tilauskaavakkeisiin, jotta niistä saatava seurantatieto voitaisiin hyödyntää tulevaisuuden kannattavuuslaskelmissa. The objective of this thesis was to research and develop advertising agency’s profitability. The goal was to investigate if products had too high or low prices. Furthermore the objective was to find out if it would be better to subcontract the product or make it yourself. Along with profitability calculations another goal was to improve product profitability tracking systems for future use. Because of the target company’s wide range of products the best way to get to profitability was to use product specific calculations.
The knowledge base for this thesis is the theory section based on which the empiric section has been built. The theoretic framework consists of managerial accounting and cost accounting literature. The theoretic section looks into where the costs form for a business and the basic methods for profitability calculations.
Empiric section consists of studying client company’s manufacturing processes and figuring out product specific costs. Excel based calculations were made based on the results. With these Excel sheets one can create models of different sales scenarios. During the process of making these Excel sheets the emphasis was on reusability and plasticity to answer the company’s needs in varying situations.
The conclusion of this thesis shows that some of the products are too expensive when manufacturing large quantities. Underpricing can be found when too small manufacturing quantities are made. The results of the profitability calculations of this thesis can be used during the repricing of products. The profitability calculations Excel sheets can be used in the future when doing research on products that were left outside of the limits of this thesis. The found improvements on tracking systems were implemented on current order forms, so that the benefits could be made towards future profitability calculations.
