Though it started as a simple way to add interactivity to a web page, JavaScript has evolved so that it can be used extensively to power both the front-end and back-end of a modern web application.
This thesis explores the extent to which the heavily utilization of JavaScript as a full-stack solution is a viable option for a web application in the present day. It achieves this through a case study of a web application that allows the user to track television shows. The process of creating the application is followed closely from its initial idea through to the end of the development and implementation phase.
Through an analysis that pays particular attention to end-user experience but also treats developer experience as a first-class citizen, this thesis finds that expanding the use of JavaScript and its available frameworks can be an excellent choice for a modern web application. However, it is important to consider carefully whether this solution is right for the application that is being built, as the features gained by the choice of technology can have unintended negative consequences, too.
