Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyössä uudistettiin Suomen Briard ry:n julkaiseman rotulehden Briardin ulkoasu. Lehti on perustettu vuonna 1981.
In the thesis the appearance of the breed magazine Briard, published by Finlands Briard ry was renewed. The goal was to refresh and modernize the appearance of the magazine, that had been the same for a long time. The magazine was founded in 1981. The aim was to design frameworks for the design, that is the color scheme, typography and grafical elements, so that the editor-inchief may continue with the renewed look. The goal was to simultaniously observe, what kind of layout works in a dogbreed-magazine, that is published by voluntary work without professional know-how and with everchanging contents, for the written portion of the work.
For the thesis I gathered information by interviewing Briards current editor-in-chief Vilma Hallikas, Koiramme-magazines editor-in-chief Tapio Eerola as well as I went to listen to a lecture by AnneMari Ahonen at KoiraExpo Noon Kollective about Compelling magazine layout. I also scooped information from several fresh online sources and books from over several decades. A survey was conducted on the readers of Briard-magazine, with the purpose of finding out how important do they feel the visuals are and how did the new magazine represent itself - was the text clear, were there enough images and vas the color scheme pleasing. From reader feedback it became apparent that visual appearance is found to be important. In the readers eyes the new magazine appeared as clear and modern. The look was considered as fresh, stylish and interesting.
A pilot renewal was made for the already published issue 4/2018. Based on the new appearance, the feedback and theory was printed the issue 1/2019, that appeared at the end of march to its readers. According to reader feedback the magazine became more interesting with the new look. The editor-in-chief will decide what revisions will get put in to use and is responsible for the realization of the design in the future.
