Mobility plays a crucial role in our daily lives as human beings. Our ability to move from one place to another and carry out our daily task revolves around our ability to move. The end-product of this thesis is to develop a working prototype of a smart wheelchair with a heart rate monitor installed on the wheelchair. Though the end-product is smart wheelchair development, the main objective is to assess how well students were able to use online learning as a pedagogical tool to develop the wheelchair, select the appropriate technology to use for the project based on the prescribed course material. The project employs the use of internet of things, online learning and some selected Integrated development environments to work on the project.

At the end of the study, a working prototype of the smart wheelchair was developed, and the objectives of the project were met.
