Tiivistelmä
The objective of this study was to create a system that would enable the Aircraft and Weapon Systems Training Squadron of the Finnish Air Force’s Aircraft and Weapon Systems Training Wing to obtain feedback from individual students and service units. One aim of the study was to determine the requirements for a functional feedback system and identify means of benefiting from feedback collected in further development of training programs. Another aim was to identify any problems associated with the collection of feedback and find out advantages that feedback could yield. The terminal objective was the establishment of a feedback system that could also be used to collect feedback belatedly, which in turn would ensure the validity of service units’ assessment of training programs. The initial step in the collection of material was the determination of specifications, which included matters such as the characteristics and possible uses of the system to be created. Study of literature provided theoretical background for the study, while existing feedback systems were looked at in the internet and employing contacts on personal level. When the system reached the evaluation stage, service units were invited to provide comments and remarks on it with the purpose of verifying the new system would yield benefits to all parties involved. With the evaluation and development phase of the system completed, it was tested using a number of students as a control group. A questionnaire of any needs for further development of the system and of customer satisfaction was also administered among the users. The work resulted in a feedback system that can be used to collect both immediate feedback from students and delayed feedback from students and their superiors. Feedback thus collected also enables easy compilation of summaries for a variety of purposes. In conjunction with the development work, principles for the means and timing of feedback collection were laid down, and methods of disseminating feedback among all users were specified. The feedback system thus created will facilitate collection of feedback and its further processing in the Aircraft and Weapon Systems Training Squadron. It is also a useful tool that can be used to improve training syllabi and ensure customer satisfaction.
