Ohjeeseen on tiivistetty tutkimuksen avulla saatu kokemusperäinen tieto vapaaehtoistyön merkityksestä maahanmuuttajille. In voluntary work people are motivated from helping others but also from developing themselves. They can learn new skills in voluntary work and develop their own skills. In Finland its usual to do voluntary work but it is not that usual to do voluntary work as an immigrant in Finland. This is the reason why MLL launched the project called multicultural child and family work project. The aim of the project was to get the immigrants into the organization as volunteers and participants. Communication allows one to market not only activities but also to attract new volunteers as members and actors in the organization.
The goal of this development project was to explore the importance of volunteering for immigrants, what they have learned and what they think about the organization communication at the end of the project. The development project emphasizes their own experience as volunteers of the organization. Experiences have been gathered through interviews with various immigrant women who have been involved in voluntary work one way or the other.
The output of the development project was a communication guide that take into account multiculturalism. The guide summarizes the experiential knowledge of the importance of volunteering for immigrants. In volunteering, experience was gained in gaining acceptance and meeting, feeling good at volunteering, socializing in voluntary work and cultural awareness and learning Finnish.
