Yhteistä tekemistä, omia onnistumisia : Yksintulleiden pakolaisnuorten kokemuksia Youth as Refugees -videoprojektista

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli tuoda näkyville nuorten ilman huoltajaa tulleiden turvapaikanhakijoiden ja pakolaisten kokemuksia Youth as Refugees -videoprojektista. Tehtävänä oli tutkia ja selvittää, mikä sai videoprojektiin osallistuneet nuoret alun perin aloittamaan ja jatkamaan projektissa. Lisäksi pyrkimys oli nostaa esille videoprojektin aikana esiintyneet solmukohdat sekä nuorten tuntemukset projektin loppuessa heidän kohdallaan.

Tutkielmani oli luonteeltaan laadullinen, ja sen tutkimuksellisena viitekehyksenä toimi tarinallisuus. Aineistonkeruumenetelmänä käytin syvähaastatteluja. Haastateltavani olivat kaksi Härmälän ryhmä- ja perheryhmäkodissa videoprojektiin keväällä ja kesällä 2010 osallistunutta nuorta. Aineiston analyysissä sovelsin aineistolähteistä sisällönanalyysia ja tarinallisuuden keinoja avata nuorten kertomuksia.

Tutkimustuloksista kävi ilmi, että syinä nuorten videoprojektiin tarttumiseen olivat tarve mielekkääseen tekemiseen sekä yhdessä toimimiseen muiden asumisyhteisön nuorten kanssa. Nuorten videoiden tekemisestä syntyneet onnistumisen kokemukset nousivat tärkeimmiksi syiksi videoprojektissa jatkamiseen alun jälkeen. Tärkeimmiksi solmukohdiksi videoprojektin aikana muodostuivat nuorten henkilökohtaisen elämän solmukohdat. Videoprojektin loppuessa molemmat nuoret kokivat videoiden teon harrastuksekseen ja toivoivat pääsevänsä jatkamaan projektissa muun muassa uuden oppimiseen sekä itseilmaisun helpottumiseen vuoksi.

Johtopäätöksenä voidaan todeta, että vaikka nuoret saivat videoprojektista onnistumisen kokemuksia, vaikuttavat projektin sujuvuuteen eniten heidän henkilökohtaisen elämänsä solmukohdat. Tämä tulee huomioida tämänkaltaisia projekteja ohjatessa. Voidaan kuitenkin todeta, että nuorten kokemuksien perusteella Youth as Refugees -videoprojektin tavoitteet nuorten oman äänen kuuluville tulemisesta sekä heidän yhteisönsä tukemisesta toteutuivat.

The aim of the study was to bring up the experiences of unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugees about the “Youth as Refugees” video project. The task was to investigate what made the youngsters participating in the video project originally begin and continue in the project. The turning-points during the video project and the youngsters’ feelings at the end of the project were also dealt with in the study.

The study was a qualitative research with a narrative context. Data were gathered in in-depth interviews. The interviewees were two youngsters from the Härmälä Group and Family Group Home participating in the video project during the spring and summer of 2010. Data based content analysis and narrative analyzing methods were used for analyzing the data.

Results indicate that the reasons for the youngsters to begin the project were their craving for meaningful activity and the possibility of working together with other youngsters in their community. The feelings of self-worthiness aroused by the making of films were the main reason for continuing in the project after the beginning. The most important turning-points during the video project were the great changes the youngsters experienced in their personal lives. At the end of the project the youngsters felt that making videos had become their hobby and wished to continue in the project for its benefits for self-expression and for learning something new.

As a conclusion, it seems that even though the youngsters experienced a feeling of succeeding in the project, the turning-points in their personal lives had the biggest impact on their participation. This craving for special guidance has to be taken into account in the organizing of such projects. However, it can be stated that based on the youngsters’ experiences, the “Youth as Refugees” video project reached their aim for making the youngsters’ voice heard and for supporting their community.
