Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyössä selvitettiin, millaista kiire tehostetun palveluasumisyksikön osastotyössä
on.
This study examined what haste is like on the wards of a 24-hour housing service unit. The objective was to bring forward the experiences and views of the staff in regard to which situations
haste is seen in and how haste becomes apparent. The subject of the study was useful in not only gaining a better understanding of haste but also in the development of ward work in general.
The study was conducted as qualitative research that was based on the values and principles of service design and the focus was on the study phase of the service design process.
The work utilized service design methods in collecting and analyzing data, in order to increase our understanding of the needs, experiences and thoughts of the staff on the wards in relation to haste. Self-documentation in the form of diaries was used as a method of
gathering data. The results of the study are based on eight diaries. The affinity diagram method was used for analyzing the data.
According to the diaries in the study, haste seemed to be connected particularly to some form of imbalance in the wards of the housing service unit. Based on the staff members’ haste stories, haste was tied to the amount of work, the competence of the worker, the
number of employees and the needs of the residents. If any of these were in a state of unbalance regarding time, one needed to hurry. Haste appeared for instance on sauna days, at mealtimes and during shifts, when one was paired up with a care assistant. Haste manifested
as stress and the inability to manage work.
The results of the thesis can be utilized in designing new operating models and ways to reduce the burden of haste.
