Opinnäytetyö on laadullinen tutkimus. Tutkimus toteutettiin haastattelemalla viittä Havurinteen työntekijää. Heistä neljä toimi Havurinteellä ohjaajina ja yksi perheterapeuttina. Haastattelumenetelmänä toimi teemahaastattelu. Aineisto analysoitiin teemoittelemalla.
The objective of the thesis was to examine the intensified family work offered at Havurinne from the personnel's point of view. Havurinne operates under South Savo Social and Health Care Authority and was originally a facility-based reception home unit for youth. During the implementation of the study in 2019, Havurinne operated in a temporary building due to poor indoor air quality in the previous facility. During their stay at the temporary spaces, the personnel executed intensified family work at home instead of the facility-based work. The thesis aimed at investigating the personnel's outlook on the intensifed family work at home, its strengths and challenges, and how family work as well as the competence of the personnel should be developed.
The concepts of family, parenthood and family work are explained in the background of the study. Furthermore, professional competence, work methods and the process of family work are discussed. An overview of the most relevant laws guiding family work is also in-cluded in the background section.
The thesis is a qualitative study. The data was collected by interviewing five of Havurinne staff members. Four of the interviewees were social counsellors and one worked as a family therapist. Thematic interview was chosen as the method of interviewing and the data was analysed through thematic analysis.
According to the results of the study the personnel considered the transition from facility-based work to intensified family work to be unclear. During the transition phase they would have needed more explicit instructions for their work. This could have been realized by the supervisors taking a more visible role and by planning more carefully together with the personnel in advance. More uniform working methods were requested, too. As a solution to this it was suggested to arrange an on-the-job training on family work for the personnel. This would allow standardization of working methods. Furthermore, the personnel hoped for more cooperation with social workers, family therapist and other partners in collaboration with Havurinne.
Professional skills were one of the strengths and assets the personnel mentioned. In addi-tion, for example performance appraisals and various family work related on-the-job train-ings were found important and reinforcing professional skills. When discussing the transi-tion back to facility-based work, the personnel emphasized their wish of adding human resources and performing stricter client segmentation. Moreover, the personnel wished to develop their mutual communication and work by partners.
