Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyön aiheena olivat hoitajien valmiudet alkoholinkäytön puheeksi ottamiseen Porin kotihoidossa.
Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää hoitajien valmiuksia ottaa alkoholinkäyttö puheeksi Porin kotihoidossa hoitajien kokemana. Tarkoituksena oli myös selvittää, miten hoitajien koulutus on auttanut heitä ottamaan alkoholinkäytön puheeksi. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on kehittää kotihoidon alkoholinkäytön puheeksi oton käytänteitä.
Tutkimus oli laadullinen eli kvalitatiivinen. Tutkimusta varten lähetettiin puolistrukturoidut kyselylomakkeet Porin kotihoitoon 15 hoitajalle (N=15). Kyselyyn vastaamisaikaa oli kaksi viikkoa. Määräaikaan mennessä vastauksia oli tullut kahdeksan (n=8).
Ikääntyneiden alkoholinkäytön puheeksi ottaminen on opinnäytetyön tulosten perusteella haastavaa. Tämä selvisi kyselytutkimuksen tuloksista. Hoitajilla on erilaisia tilanteita ja kokemuksia puheeksi ottamisesta. Vastanneet hoitajat myös kokivat, ettei työssä saatu koulutus ole riittävä.
Myös asiakkaiden suhtautuminen vaihtelee. Yleisesti ottaen asiakkaat ottavat asian hyvin ja ymmärtävät sen, miksi siitä puhutaan. Hoitajien kokemuksista on tulkittavissa, että monet asiakkaat saattavat vähätellä asiaa. Hoitajan ikä saattaa vaikuttaa puheeksi ottamiseen. Moni hoitaja on kuitenkin huomattavasti nuorempi kuin kotihoidon asiakas. Asiakas saattaa kokea, että hänellä on enemmän elämänkokemusta kuin hoitajalla. The subjects of the thesis were the abilities of nurses to talk about alcohol consumption in home care Pori.
The purpose of this thesis was to find out how nurses talk about alcohol consumption with clients in the home care Pori. The perspective was the experience of the nurses. The purpose was also to find out how nurses education has helped them to talk about the alcohol consumption. The objective of this thesis was to develop the practice of alcohol consumption in home care Pori.
The research was qualitative. Half-structured questionnaires were sent to 15 nurses (N=15) in home care Pori. The response time was two weeks. Eight responses had been received by the deadline (=8).
The results of the thesis tell that talk about alcohol use among elderly people is difficult. This emerged from the results of the survey. Nurses have different kind of situations and experiences of the talk about alcohol consumption. Respondent nurses also felt that the education they receive at work was not enough.
Clients perceptions also vary. Usually clients take it well and understand why they are talking about it. From the experience of the nurses it can be interpreted that many clients may be overlooked. The age of the nurse can influence of talking about alcohol. Many nurses are considerably younger than the clients of the home care. The client can feel that he or she has more life experience than the nurse.
