In this thesis the photovoltaic system was first analyzed with a theoretical focus, focusing on the history of solar power harnessing and how solar radiation turns into electricity in practice. The theoretical part also analyzed the harmful conditions of the solar photovoltaic system and tried to find workable solutions for them.
After the theory of the photovoltaics had been reviewed, we went over to look at their photovoltaic system on site and the electricity it produced. There were some harmful shadows that were suspected to cause a drop of the production. This work attempted to find the right ways to optimize the system.
The study investigates whether the system´s production is optimal relative to its location. The research was carried out by comparing the obtained production with other solar photovoltaic systems in Finland and running a computer simulation program that evaluates the theoretical electricity production of the system.
The system under investigation is located on the roof of the power plant and there were also structural problems that stress the roof structure of the site. The safety of the whole system was the most important detail when exploring possible solutions to problems.
