Tiivistelmä
Tämän kvalitatiivisen tutkimuksen toimeksiantaja on Jyväskylän kaupungin Palokan nuorisokoti. Tutkimuksesta saatuja tuloksia on tarkoitus hyödyntää Palokan nuorisokodilla osallisuuden kehittämiseksi.
Tutkimuksen teoreettinen viitekehys muodostuu käsitteistä lastensuojelu, lastensuojelun laitoshoito, nuorisokoti ja osallisuus. Osallisuus on ajankohtainen ja puhuttava teema tällä hetkellä lastensuojelun saralla. Osallisuutta voidaan kuvata monella eri tavalla. Tärkein näkökulma lapsen ja nuoren osallisuudelle on heidän oikeutensa ilmaista mielipiteitään, tulla kuulluksi ja vaikuttaa itseään koskevissa asioissa. Osallisuudesta on säädetty monessa eri laissa.
Tiedonkeruu tapahtui haastattelemalla nuorisokotiin sijoitettuja 13-17 vuotiaita nuoria. Haastattelu suoritettiin teemahaastatteluna. Tutkimukseen osallistui 6 nuorta.
Nuoret antoivat numeroksi vaikutusmahdollisuuksiinsa 7,5, asteikolla 1-10.
Thesis was ordered by youth`s home from the city of Jyväskylä. The home was Palokka youth´s home. The aim of the research was to produce new information about youth’s participation in the youth’s home. The young people wanted to find out how they felt about being heard and the feeling that they were involved in decision-making in their every day life decisions. The aim was also to get development ideas on how to develop youth participation at Palokka youth home. The qualitative research was done based on the individual interviews. The results of the research will be used at the Palokka youth home, to develop inclusions.
The theoretical framework of this thesis consists concepts of child protection, foster care place, youth home and participation. Participation is a current theme in the field of child protection. Participation is a concept, which can be defined in many ways. The most important aspect of child’s and youth’s participation is their right to express their opinions, to be heard and to influence themselves and their own things. Participation is mentioned in many different laws. It is also important to understand that the experience of participation is a personal one for every child and young person.
The material was acquired by theme interviews: Six adolescents aged 13 to 17 years old living in the youth home were interviewed. The interview was backed up by a theme interview frame and a mind map on youth participation created to support the interview. The material was analysed using theme design and typing. I have used a modified version of Nigel Thomas’s (2002) and Harry Shier’s climbing wall theorys in the analysis and the results part of my thesis.
According to the results, the young people mainly felt that they were involved in the daily activities in the youth home, in the community and in various meetings. Young people felt that their views were taken into account and that they were given sufficient responsibility. The young people gave the number of their influence of 7.5 on a scale from 1-10. The young people felt that they were best informed through their own instructor. Young people's responses revealed that young people's awareness of their own rights is weak. Young people would also like to have more control over their own expenses and schedules at the Youth Home.
Research’s results were introduced in children’s homes to the residents and personnel.
