Tiivistelmä
Finnish Figure Skating Association, Suomen Taitoluisteluliitto (STLL), is the roof top organisation for figure skating in Finland. The mission of STLL is together with its member clubs to provide good conditions for figure skating both in hobby and competitive sport. One of the most important objectives of STLL is to strengthen the knowledge of the coaches and instructors and to ensure the continuity of the qualitative figure and synchronized skating coaching in the future.
STLL has provided for many years education for figure and synchronized skating instructors and coaches. Since the sport keeps developing, a need to update the educational activities was necessary to be able to answer to the today’s needs in knowledge development.
Objective of this research was to provide suggestions for knowledge development actions for STLL on its education path and for the content of each education. To ensure data, how the participants have perceived the STLL educations and to recognize the development areas, a survey that used both quantitative and qualitative methods was conducted. Literature overview of knowledge development was provided to deepen the understanding of the topic and the findings.
The research resulted in giving developmental suggestions for STLL education activities based on the results of the survey as well as the theoretical framework on knowledge development and mentoring. Through this research the STLL sport educators have data and theory to support their development actions within the education path as well as individual education courses. The findings support the intentions of STLL to start a mentoring program as a new way of knowledge development.
