Tiivistelmä
Student-based entrepreneurship forms an essential part of the larger Finnish entrepreneurship and start-up ecosystem. The essence of developing a cross-border student entrepreneurship community is to create and advance synergy between the Finnish and Russian entrepreneurship ecosystems and further advantage on the cooperation and networks to develop capacities among prospective student entrepreneurs consequently advancing the entrepreneurship concept.
The research study aimed to develop and promote cross-border student community between Finland and Russia. The study had three objectives: to define the current state of cross-border student entrepreneurship between Finland and Russia within Kymenlaakso region, describe the student entrepreneurship models as a part of the student entrepreneurship ecosystem and develop methods of recruiting student community leaders as part of the Finnish-Russia student cross-border community.
Research methodologies applied for the study were participatory action research and supplemented by the qualitative method that included structured and semi-structured interviews. Secondary data was derived from relevant research publications, articles and books. The data collected was analysed with phronetic iterative approach (focused analysis process)
The findings from the study showed that the current state of cross-border entrepreneurship between the Kymenlaakso region (Finland) and St. Petersburg (Russia) is limited. Besides, Finnish student-based entrepreneurship societies varied significantly with their contemporaries from ITMO (St. Petersburg), mostly in terms of their understanding as to what student entrepreneurship entails and structural organization. As such, the researcher developed a model with anchor events and activities that will form the focal point for the cross-border community.
