This bachelor’s thesis covers the creation of a new automation system for an existing testing process of flexible fluid containers. The automation system is based on a Siemens PLC and a Siemens HMI.
In order to prevent downtime in the emergence of a problem, outdated hardware and software should be upgraded as soon as possible. In automation technology there is also a growing tendency to integrate IT into the field to a greater extent, and an upgrading process for an automation system presents an excellent opportunity to further reduce the gap between the two fields. The integration of IT in automation technology allows for greater possibilities for control and surveillance of processes. In this project the functionality of the automation system is increased, the risk of operator error is minimized, and the user interface is renewed.
The practical part of the thesis describes the programming procedure of an automation system in Siemens TIA Portal, as well as the simulating and testing of the resulting system. Various parts that the creation of an automation system consists of are presented, among these the creation of a user interface for an operator panel. The theoretical part of the thesis briefly describes technologies and standards which were applied in the final automation system, and accounts for the primary hardware and software used in the execution of the project.
The result of the thesis is a simulated, tested and documented automation system in the shape of a project in TIA Portal which includes all control units, and preassembled electrical enclosures with all associated components installed.
