The objective of this thesis was to develop processes in the steel outfitting work. This thesis was commissioned by Turku-based electricity company Laivasähkötyö Oy. In this thesis the challenges of the work and inspection follow-up are shown for the Turn-Key (TK) areas of the company and new ideas were developed to improve these sectors.
The shipbuilding industry is a field that has been extremely competed internationally and the TK subcontractors must try to improve their operations in order to remain a relevant supplier to the yard. This means that the subcontractors must develop their processes continuously in order to keep this kind of industry in Finland. In this thesis the problems met by the management of the company are brought up regarding the work and inspection follow-up and after was studied how it would be possible to develop these processes.
During the writing process new ways to intensify the follow-up of steel outfitting were developed by observing how the management worked in the earlier projects. As the results of this thesis the simple solutions and fast adoptable ideas are shown to develop the everyday management and follow-up. New inspection follow-up chart and weekly meetings with subcontractors are developed to improve project management.
