The Prison Fair (Vankimessut) organized by Tuetusti tulevaisuuteen -project was held in Pori Vesitornin Puisto on June 6, 2019 for the first time. The purpose of my thesis was to carry out, as part of the Prison Fair, an Information point which increases knowledge and understanding about ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome. The goal of the Information point was to raise the awareness of the Prison Fair visitors about neuropsychiatric disorders, related challenges, guidance and, in particular, resources and strengths.
At the Information point, I had compiled material on ADHD and Asperger's syndrome, tips for improving cognitive control, and information on the strengths of neuropsychiatric traits. I evaluated the implementation of the Information point with a feedback survey and observation. According to the results of the feedback survey and my own findings, raising awareness of ADHD and Asperger was deemed necessary and the provided information was seen usable in the future. In particular, a positive approach to neuropsychiatric traits, highlighting their associated strengths, was perceived as good.
Based on the results of the thesis, it can be said that the Information Booth worked well as a part of the Prison Fair. Strengthening knowledge of neuropsychiatric competence and access to information was seen as important. Many people who visited the Information Booth felt a need for the information and they also often had personal experiences of ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome to share.
