Tutkimuksellinen lähestymistapa on narratiivinen.
Opinnäytetyössä käytetään lähdemateriaaleina taiteilijan oman kokemuksen ja työpäiväkirjojen lisäksi alan julkaisuja. Filosofien John Deweyn ja Frank Martelan tutkimukset luovat tieteellisen pohjan Pollarin perimmäiselle kysymykselle elämän merkityksellisyydestä, joka kulkee teemana läpi työn. Työ on muodoltaan portfolio, pitäen sisällään tämän tutkimuksellisen raportin ja taiteellisen osuuden, joka on toteutustavaltaan runovideo.
Tutkimus osoittaa taiteilijoiden työnkuvan laajat mahdollisuudet osana sosiaali- ja terveysalan vanhuspalveluita. Työssä esitetään vanhusten palvelukeskuksissa monialaisen kehitystyön tarpeellisuus viittaamalla holistiseen ihmiskäsitykseen, nostaen henkisten tarpeiden tyydyttäminen perustarpeiden ohella tasavertaisiksi. Työn tuloksena Pollarin omalle ammatti-identiteetille on rakentunut työnkuvaa ja ammattitaitoa vahvistava narratiivi. Siihen tutustumalla lukija saa käsityksen taiteilijan työstä vanhusten palvelukeskuksessa. The aim of Tuuli Pollari's thesis has been to research working as an artist and the meaningfulness of an artist's job description at a senior care home. The starting points of the thesis were a view of the necessity for artists as part of elderly care organisations and to make it visible. The chosen method for the thesis is a narrative approach.
The source materials of the thesis are the artist's own experience, work diaries, as well as publications in the field. Research by philosophers John Dewey and Frank Martela creates the scientific basis for Pollari's key question about a meaningful life, which is a recurring theme throughout the thesis. The thesis takes the form of a portfolio, which includes a research-based report and an artistic part that was realised as a poetry video.
The research shows a wide range of possibilities for an artist's job description as part of elderly care services in the social and healthcare industry. The thesis suggests a need for developing multidisciplinary approaches in senior care homes by pointing to a holistic view of the human being, and making spiritual needs equal to basic needs. The outcome of the thesis is a narrative that affirms the job description and expertise of Pollari's professional identity. Through the thesis the reader gets acquainted with what it is like to work as an artist at a senior care home.
