Atrial fibrillation is one of our most common arrhythmias and contributes with an increased risk of stroke. It is important with early detection of the disease to initiate treatment. Current research points out that there is a lack of reliable and cost-effective screening methods available to detect atrial fibrillation. The disease is under diagnosed and studies notice that the population needs additional knowledge and education about arrythmia.
Society needs to develop prevention methods to be able to increase public knowledge and identify people in risk groups. Previous research analyzes pulse palpation as useful method. The sensitivity is high whilst reliability remains a discussion without concrete results. New technology brings opportunities for further studies to analyze the possibilities and developments of pule palpation techniques.
This literature study is based on research in form of scientific documents. The studies highlight factors associated with the care and treatment of atrial fibrillation. The aim of the study is to analyze the nurses’ role in the atrial fibrillation care by looking at how the nurse can strengthen self-care by creating qualifications for self-care in the nurse-patient relationship. The study also describes in what way the nurse can satisfy care requisites for people with AF.
The aim of the study is to contribute with increased knowledge about AF. The content in the background consists of literature and scientific articles that provides with basic knowledge about the disease. The theoretical framework by Dorothea Orems’ self-care theory links to the scientific results. The theoretical background combined with the self-care theory strengthens the ability to see the holistic view of the unique nursing process. It gives the reader an increased ability to transfer and apply the scientific result in clinical practice.
